Casale le lune is a restored residence of the late 19th century, in the countryside adjoining to the village of Santa Margherita di Belice (Agrigento), called “Donnafugata” by Tomasi di Lampedusa in his romance “Il Gattopardo”, as the queen Maria Carolina of Austria found refuge there escaping the English. She was hosted in the Palazzo Filangeri Cutò, rosen up on the ruins of an Arab fortalice “Manzilsindi”, where took place many of the events told in the famous romance.
Nowadays this historic building is the seat of the “Parco Letterario di Tomasi di Lampedusa” and of the homonymous museum where are preserved the manuscripts of the works of the famous Italian writer.
The Casale le lune that looks towards the sea from one side and towards the hills above the river Belice valley from the other side, fits in a glimpse of a deep and unknown Sicily, where traditional crops such as wheat, olives and grapevine alternate with unusual ones like the Indian fig and with the woods covering the higher areas.
